Cardinals Down Pirates, Cubs Still Looking to Nail Playoff Spot

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, 5-1.

Matthew Liberatore registered six strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings of work. JJ Wetherholt led the offense with three hits and a walk.

The Redbirds and Pirates play at 11:35am today.

The Chicago Cubs are still looking to clinch a playoff spot, falling to the Miami Marlins 3-2 Wednesday night.

Michael Busch had two hits for the Cubs, and Dansby Swanson drove in the Cubs’ runs. Kevin Gausman gave up two runs in 5-2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, San Diego has moved into the top spot in the Wild Card chase, a game ahead of the Cubs and Philadelphia. Arizona is still alive, as well.

Matthew Boyd will start for the Cubs against the Marlins today at 1:20pm at Wrigley Field.
