St. Anthony Hands North Clay 12-1 High School Baseball Loss

Effingham St. Anthony put together an 11-hit attack and ended this high school baseball game against North Clay with a 12-1 victory in five innings Tuesday heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Bulldogs struck early, scoring five runs in the first inning. With one out, Alex Mayer drew a walk and reached second on a wild pitch. Blake Verdeyen also drew a walk. Johnny Gannaway singled home a run and Chase Doris doubled, scoring two runners. Freddie Jansen drew a walk. With two out, Reed Schumacher singled home a run.

North Clay tallied a run in the second. Collin Schnepper was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Gavin Robey singled Schnepper home.

The Bulldogs came back with a run in the bottom of the second to lead 6-1. Mayer was hit by a pitch and went to second on an error. He came home on a single by Verdeyen.

The Bulldogs tallied four more in the third to lead 10-1. Freddie Jansen led off the frame with a single and took second on a wild pitch. He came home on a triple by Hayden Bushur. Sam Vineyard reached base on an error. Tingley had a single and Mayes followed with a double, scoring a run. A sacrifice fly by Verdeyen scored a run. Gannaway singled home a run and the Bulldogs held a 10-1 lead.

The final run came in the fourth as Bushur was hit by a pitch and came home on a single by Vineyard.

Dorris picked up the pitching victory. He went three innings, giving up one run on three hits.
