 St. Anthony Wins Mahomet Tourney Title, Area Volleyball Weekend Roundup

Mahomet — Effingham St. Anthony won the championship of the Mahomet Volleyball Tournament during the weekend.

The Bulldogs defeated Fieldcrest 25-13, 25-21, Bloomington 25-21, 25-16, Decatur Unity Christian 25-22, 25-23, Mahomet 26-24, 25-20 and Geneseo 20-25, 25-20, 15-9.

Cara Hatton led the Bulldogs in kills with 56 and digs with 54. Madelyn Gilmore had 98 assists and Sophia Emmerich led in aces with seven. Ali Kollman led in blocks with 10.

Hatton was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Bulldogs are now 22-3 on the season and back in action today against Dieterich.

South Central Wins the Webber Smackdown Tournament.

At Bluford

South Central captured first place at the Webber Smackdown Tournament Saturday.

The Cougars defeated Elverado 25-8, 25-16 and Coben 25-19, 25-14. In pool play, South Central defeated Galatia 25-7, 25-15 in the championship match.

South Central is 16-6 on the season and returns to play Tuesday hosting Sandoval.

At Strasburg

Teutopolis traveled to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday.

In varsity play, Windsor/Stew-Stras was the winner 25-11, 25-17 to improve to 17-6 overall.

The Hatchets also won the junior varsity contest, 25-23, 25-13. WSS improved to 12-1.

“The energy looked so good out there tonight,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “The girls definitely came to play. It was fun to watch. Homecoming attendants were introduced along with inducting members into the Windsor Hall of Fame.”

The two teams split freshman/sophomore play. T-town won 25-15 while WSS won 25-23.

T-town is back in action today at Vandalia.

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated North Clay Friday.

The Eagles won the varsity match 25-12, 25-16 and the junior varsity contest 26-24, 25-23.

The two teams split freshman/sophomore play with St.Elmo/Brownstown winning 25-22 and North Clay winning 25-23.

North Clay competed in the St. Elmo/Freshman/Sophomore Tournament Saturday. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over North Clay 12-25, 25-18, 15-12. St. Elmo/Brownstown was a winner over North Clay 25-20, 25-14.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis hosted a Freshman/Sophomore Invitational Tournament Saturday.

In Pool 1 — T-town defeated St. Anthony, 25-18, 25-22; Dieterich defeated St. Anthony, 25-20, 25-22 and Teutopolis defeated Dieterich, 25-15, 25-19.

In Pool 2 — Newton defeated Effingham, 25-17, 20-25, 15-7, Newton defeated Windsor/Stewardson-Strsaburg 25-20, 25-23 and Windsor/Stew-Stras defeated Effingham, 25-20, 26-24.

In the first crossover matches, St. Anthony defeated Windsor/Stew-Stras 25-19, 25-17 and Effingham defeated Dieterich, 25-20, 25-17.

In the second round, Teutopolis defeated St. Anthony, 25-14, 25-14 and Newton defeated Effingham, 25-20, 25-22.

Newton won the championship over Teutopolis 25-18, 27-25.

Effingham won the consolation over St. Anthony, 25-20, 25-22.
