 Seven Area Individuals, Two Relay Teams Advance To Finals In Girls State Track Meet

CHARLESTON — Seven area individuals and two relay teams advanced from the Class 1A Girls State Track Meet preliminaries Thursday to the Finals scheduled for Saturday at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium.

Effingham St. Anthony’s Reese Hoene led the list of area qualifiers by competing in four events and qualifying in three of those to the Finals. Hoene took second in the 200 prelims with a time of 25.82 seconds. She finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 59.94 seconds and was second in the long jump at 17 ft. 9 1/2 inches. The lone event she did not advance in was the 100 where she finished 11th in the prelims with a time of 12.58.

Also heading into the second day for the Bulldogs was Aubrey Denning who finished seventh in the 800 preliminaries with a time of 2:20.78 minutes.

In the 1600, teammates Isabella Keller and Denning both advanced to the finals. Keller took fourth place with a time of 5:03.45 minutes while Denning was eighth in 5:08.97. Keller will also be competing in the 3200 which is only contested on Saturday.

Newton High School had three individuals and two relay teams advance to the Finals Saturday.

Karasyn Martin and Camryn Martin finished one-two in the pole vault prelims. K. Martin had a height of 3.05 meters and C. Martin also finished at 3.05. Sydney Kinder took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet.

The Eagles 4×100 relay team advanced by finishing ninth with a time of 50.84. Members of the team were Makayla McVicar, Morgan Schafer, Sydney Kinder and Stella Schackmann. The 4×200 relay team also advance by taking fifth with a time of 1:47.88. Team members were McVicar, Schafer, Kinder and Schackmann.

Teutopolis had one athlete reach the finals. Ella Neihls took sixth place in the triple jump at 10.91 meters and will be competing Saturday.
