Effingham St. Anthony played host to Mattoon and picked up a 6-3 victory in high school tennis competition Wednesday.
The Bulldogs claimed two of the three doubles matches. Jackson Schultz and Drake Brown were 6-1, 6-0 winners at the top spot. Charlie Bierman and Anthony Brandenburger won in three sets, 6-0, 2-6,10-7 at No. 3.
In singles play, Brown was an easy 6-1, 6-2 winner at the No. 2 spot. Bierman lost his opening set 6-4 but came back to take the No. 3 match 6-3, 10-4.
Mason Jones also had to battle at No. 4. He won the opener 7-5 but Mattoon’s Nate Coverstone took the second set 6-3. Jones then claimed the match 10-7. Max Gillenwater went 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 for the win.
The Bulldogs aren’t back in action until Tuesday when they will play host to Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m.
