 SEB, Altamont, Cumberland, Windsor/Stew-Stras Pick Up Class 1A Softball Regional Wins

St. Elmo/Brownstown, Altamont and Casey-Westfield were winners in the Class 1A Altamont Softball Regional Wednesday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown took Game 1 over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by a 6-1 tally.

CHBC led 1-0 after the first inning but SEB came back with three runs in the third then tacked on three more in the fifth behind a five-hit attack.

The Bobcats had only two hits, a double by Harper Lilly and a single by Jayla Arnett.

No information provided on St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Casey-Westfield then ended St. Elmo/Brownstown’s season with a 10-0 victory.

It was the seventh victory in a row for Casey-Westfield who now sports a 30-4 record.

St. Elmo/Brownstown ended its season with a 10-14 record.

In the third game of the regional, Altamont was a 5-2 winner over Moweaqua Central A&M.

Central A&M moved into a 1-0 first inning lead. Altamont tied in the fourth inning. With two outs, Avery Fleeharty hit a triple and scored on an error in which Alyssa Ruholl reached base. The Indians tied the game at 1-1.

Cecilia Pearcy led off the fifth inning with a triple. She scored on a ground out by Sophia Long and the Indians led 2-1.

In the sixth, Fleeharty earned a leadoff walk and then stole second. She advanced to third on a dropped third strike. Pearcy then came through again, this time with a single that scored Fleeharty. Pearcy came home on a single by Sophia Long and Altamont led 5-1.

Central A&M tallied another run in the bottom of the sixth only to fall short.

Adilynn Schnarre finished with three hits while Pearcy had two hits and an RBI. Long had a hit and an RBI.

Altamont improved to 10-17 on the season and will now meet top-seeded Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. for the championship game today beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Cumberland edged Neoga 9-8 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took an 8-1 win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond in this regional held at Lakeland College Wednesday.

Cumberland moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead against Neoga. But the Indians came roaring back with an eight-run second.

But the Pirates didn’t panic and started working back into contention with a run in the third, three in the fourth and tied the game in the fifth.

The game went into the eighth before Cumberland scored the winning run.

The Pirates finished with 15 hits in the contest led by Ava Long with a triple and an RBI, Lauren Schnepper with a single, double and three RBI, Jade Carr with a single and double, Ashton Tolen with four singles, Jude Miller with two singles and two RBI, Mia Holsapple with a double and Shelby Kingery with a double.

Holsapple went the distance, giving up eight runs on six hits. She walked four and struck out three.

Neoga was led by Lillian Denson with a triple and two RBI, Josalyn Brandenburg with two singles and an RBI and Maleah Coy and Emily Frankie with a single and an RBI each.

In the second contest, Windsor/Stew-Stras won over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 8-1.

The Hatchets edged into a 2-1 opening inning lead and then tallied two more in the second and one in the third to lead 5-1. Windsor/Stew-Stras finished out with three runs in the sixth.

The Hatchets ended with 11 hits and was aided by six ALAH errors.

Zaida Wascher had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Kinsley Dunaway, Kalia Friese and Makenna Corrie had two singles each. Dunaway added an RBI. Mya Friese, Kendra Hayes and Clarissa Johnson had a single and an RBI each. Cameron Carey finished with an RBI.

Dieterich saw its season come to a close at the Edwards County Regional Wednesday.

The Movin’ Maroons fell by a 5-4 count.

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

Hutsonville/Palestine/Oblong blanked North Clay, 6-0 at the Class 1A South Central Regional Wednesday.

North Clay ended the season with a 6-16 record.
