 St. Anthony, Neoga, North Clay Advance In Softball Regional Play

Effingham St. Anthony opened play in its own Class 2A Softball Regional with a 6-1 victory over Pana Tuesday.

The Bulldogs trailed Pana 1-0 after two innings but tied the score at 1-1 in the third. The Bulldogs then tallied five runs in the fourth.

Both teams had eight hits. Sylvie Schumacher led the way in hitting with two singles, a double and an RBI. Claire Kinkelaar added a double and two RBI while Lilly Gannaway had a double and an RBI. Nancy Ruholl finished with two singles. Mallory Litz had an RBI.

Ruholl went the distance on the mound. She gave up one run on eight hits, walked one and struck out five.

The Bulldogs now advance to face top-seeded Marshall today at 5 p.m. following the Effingham vs. Paris contest at 3 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Neoga blanked Bethany Okaw Valley by a 15-0 count in game two of the Cumberland Regional Tuesday.

In the opener, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond won over Martinsville, 14-4.

Neoga will now face Cumberland today at 3:30 p.m. followed by Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 5:30. The games will be played at Lake Land College.

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

North Clay edged Wayne City 7-6 in nine innings at the South Central Regional Tuesday.

In the other contest, Red Hill (Bridgeport) advanced over Cisne.

North Clay now meets Hutsonville/Palestine/Oblong at 4:30 p.m. today followed by South Central against Red Hill.
