 Windsor/Stew-Stras, Cumberland, St. Elmo/Brownstown Win, EHS Drops Loss In H.S. Softball

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Moweaqua Central A&M, 7-6 in high school softball competition Wednesday.

Despite being outhit by a 13-9 count, the Hatchets moved into a 2-0 lead in the second inning and tacked on one in the third and finished with four in the top of the fourth.

Windsor/Stew-Stras tallied nine hits led by Kalia Friese with two singles, a double and an RBI while Kendra Hayes added a double and two RBI, Mya Friese a double and an RBI and Makenna Corrie a double. Clarisa Johnson and Cameron Carey finished with a single and an RBI each.

Kalia Friese went 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits. She did not walk a batter in the pitching victory.

At Moweaqua

At Mattoon

Mattoon took the early lead but Cumberland came charging back to end up with the 5-4 victory Wednesday.

Mattoon scored a run in the third but Cumberland came roaring back with four runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth.

The Green Wave tallied two in the fifth and attempted a rally with one run in the bottom of the seventh only to fall short.

The Pirates finished with seven hits led by Ashton Tolen with a single and double, Lauren Schnepper with a double and an RBI, Shelby Kingery with a single and two RBI and Kada Miles and Mia Holsapple with a single and an RBI each.

Holsapple went the seven innings on the mound. She gave up four runs on six hits, three walks and struck out one.

At Mattoon

At Ramsey

Ramsey moved into a 3-1 lead in the third inning but St. Elmo/Brownstown came back to finish with a 10-3 victory Wednesday.

Along with 10 runs, St. Elmo/Brownstown finished with 10 hits. Brooklyn Landrus and Auni Wollin led the way with two singles each. Dayana Haslett and Macy Claycomb had a single and two RBI each while Kadence Speagle, Macey Sapp and Izzy Orr finished with a single and an RBI each.

Speagle went all seven innings on the mound. She gave up three runs on four hits, four walks and struck out six.

At Ramsey

The Effingham Hearts moved into a 2-0 lead but that didn’t last long as Robinson came back with three in the fourth and finished with a 16-4 victory in six innings Wednesday.

Robinson ended with 17 hits and Effingham committed three errors.

The Hearts had six hits led by Ryley Engel with a single, double and an RBI and Gieah Schlanser with a double and two RBI. Natalie Armstrong added a single and an RBI.

Robinson’s E. Brashear led the way with a single, double, home run and five RBI.
