Altamont blanked Effingham St. Anthony 5-0 in soccer competition Thursday in the Altamont Tournament.
The Indians picked up their second straight shutout and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Aiden Rosales scored the first goal for Altamont and Preston Kroening tallied the second goal with an assist by mason Suey.
Kroening put in his second goal for a 3-0 Altamont lead.
Altamont put in two more goals in the second half. Kroening finished with a hat trick, scoring his third goal on an assist by Short. Rosales put in his second goal for the 5-0 victory.
In the second contest, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond edged Robinson 3-2 and is also 2-0 in the tourney.
“We continue to work on improving our young team,” said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. “This year we have five freshmen and two sophomores starting.
“We struggled today with injuries and conditioning, but improved our tactical problems in the second half down 3-0. We created better opportunities to score in the second half.
“We play tomorrow against Robinson in our last game in the tournament.”
Today’s championship match finds Altamont taking on ALAH at 4:30 p.m.
At Charleston
Teutopolis blanked Champaign St. Thomas More 2-0 at the Charleston Red & Gold Soccer Tournament Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes’ Mark Probst scored in the first half at the 23:58 mark with an assist by Simon Lee.
Lee then had a PK at 5:36 in the second half for the score.
Isaiah Lee had two keeper saves. There were 10 shots on goal.
