The Nature Sleuth Eco-Meet is a team competition between area schools in the East Central Illinois region. Eco-Meet promotes a better understanding and use of our natural and cultural resources. School teams are made up of a handful of students in grades 4th, 5th, and 6th. The competition is open to any school in the area. Awards and plaques are given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
The Nature Sleuth Eco-Meet is a joint effort between the Douglas-Hart Nature Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Cowden-Herrick fifth grade Eco Team brought home a first place finish at the Eco Team competition held October 1 at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center.
The team, made up of Sophie Seaton, Lydia Nohren, Sadie Seaton, Charlee Wasson, and Avery Collins, earned first-place finishes in Edible Plants, Wolves, and Mammals of Illinois. Their outstanding performance also earned them the first-place overall plaque.
Lydia Nohren earned a perfect score in Mammals of Illinois, while Avery Collins earned a perfect score in Edible Plants.
The Dieterich team placed second, followed by Neoga in third place.
The Cowden-Herrick Eco Team was coached by Mrs. Jefferies.
