Effingham moved into a 4-0 opening inning lead against Mattoon and went on for an 8-2 victory Wednesday in junior high baseball competition.
The Mustangs finished with eight hits and took advantage of four Mattoon errors and eight walks.
R. Wohltman had a triple and two RBI while B. Niebrugge finished with a single, double and three RBI. J. Dust and H. Bierman added a single and an RBI each while N. Hoene had two singles.
W. Ludwig tossed a two-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts for the win on the mound.

North Clay fell to Stewardson-Strasburg in junior high baseball action Wednesday.
Stew-Stras claimed a 6-0 victory.
North Clay dropped to 3-6 in the National Trail Conference and 4-9 overall.
North Clay returns to action today against Flora for an eighth-grade game at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
