 St. Anthony, S. Central, T-town, Neoga Capture H.S. Baseball Victories

COWDEN — Effingham St. Anthony tallied an 11-1 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in high school baseball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 5-1 opening inning lead then had a six-run second to put the game away in five innings via the 10-run rule.

St. Anthony’s H. Bushur went four innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out eight and walking three.

C. Tingley hit a solo home run for the winners. F. Jansen had a single, double and three RBI while L. Roewe added a double. B. McDonald finished with a single and two RBI and W. Vonderheide and Q. Stephens had a single and an RBI each.

The Bobcats were led by K. Hardimon with two singles and Z. Bennett with a single and an RBI.

At Cowden

At Altamont

South Central came calling and handed Altamont a 5-1 loss Friday.

The Cougars moved into a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Altamont came back with a run in the third but South Central maintained control and finished with two in the seventh.

The Cougars had seven hits led by C. Tockstein with two singles. E. Hiestand and J. Smith had a single and an RBI each while L. Shumate and S. Kruger had an RBI apiece.

Tockstein picked up the win in the mound. He went five innings, giving up four hits, four walks while striking out 10.

Altamont was led by R. Stuemke and Z. Miller with a double each and C. Milleville with two singles.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis quickly moved into a 4-0 first inning lead and went on for a 15-5 victory over North Clay/Clay City Friday.

M. Habing led the Wooden Shoes with two doubles and two RBI while E. Weidner had two singles, a triple and two RBI. T. Pals added a double and L. Niebrugge a triple and an RBI. J. Kocher finished with two singles and an RBI and B. Niebrugge a single and two RBI.

North Clay/Clty City had seven hits. C. Lewis hit a home run and had two RBI. W. Ballard added a single and double while B. Adair had a double and two RBI. L. Ruholl finished with a single and an RBI.

The Shoes used four pitchers with D. Thompson the winner. He went the first two innings, giving up three runs on one hit and one walk.

At Teutopolis

Neoga and Brownstown/St. Elmo finished with eight hits each but BSE gave up eight walks and had eight errors in the 10-6 loss.

Neoga moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead and tacked on four in the second and two in both the third and fourth innings.

BSE didn’t score until the sixth with three runs.

G. Ballinger led the winners in hitting with three singles and two RBI. B. Sparrow added two singles and an RBI while B. Lin had a single and an RBI.

E. Fearday went six innings for the win. He gave up three runs on seven hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.

J. Gillespie led BSE with a triple and an RBI. C. Voelker had two singles and two RBI and N. Wilhour two singles and an RBI. BSE dropped to 1-3 in the National Trail Conference and 5-3 overall and returns to action Tuesday at Dieterich.
