 Cumberland Beats WSS To Win Class 1A Altamont Baseball Regional, Neoga Falls In Own Regional

ALTAMONT — Cumberland High School edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg to win the championship of the Class 1A Altamont Baseball Regional Saturday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras opened with a 1-0 lead in the third inning then pushed that to 2-0 in the fifth.

But Cumberland got in the scoring with a four-run sixth and that’s all the runs it would need in the 4-3 victory.

Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a final run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Pirates had only two hits, a single and two RBI by Hudson McElravy and a single by Kade McMechan. Grady Jones finished with an RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Branson Tingley and Carter Verdeyen with a single and an RBI each. Koy Morris added an RBI.

Cumberland advances to the Altamont Sectional Wednesday. The Pirates will face Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 4:30 p.m. in the second game of the day.

In the opener, North Clay faces Bethany Okaw Valley at 2 p.m. North Clay won its own Class 1A Regional by downing Casey-Westfield, 8-1 Saturday.

At Neoga

In the Class 1A Neoga Regional, Neoga fell in the championship game to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 19-7 in six innings Saturday.

The two teams were tied at 4-4 in the first inning. ALAH then edged ahead 5-4 in the second, tacked on three in the third, four in the fifth and seven in the sixth.

ALAH played long ball, hitting three home runs, two doubles and a triple.

Neoga finished with nine hits led by Cayden Hakman with a single, double and three RBI, Braylon Sparrow with a single and double, Garrett Ballinger with two singles, Callen Lanham with a single and two RBI and Malik Coy with a single and an RBI.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond advances to the Altamont Sectional and will face Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
