 Effingham, Dieterich, CHBC, Newton Capture High School Baseball Wins

Effingham High School handed Highland a 9-4 loss in baseball competition Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the opening inning. The Hearts’ Brayden Tucker singled as the Hearts tied the game.

Effingham then flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on five hits to lead 9-1. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in three runs.

Jude Traub earned the pitching win for the Hearts. He surrended four hits and four runs, three earned, over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three.

The Hearts tallied 10 hits in the game. Max Flack had a single, double and an RBI while Carter Braddy and Wyatt Hayes had two singles each. Braddy added an RBI. Andrew Wagoner, Brody Boehm and Tucker had a single and an RBI each.

In a junior varsity contest, Effingham edged Highland, 6-5.

The Hearts finished with 12 hits led by T. Raddatz with a single and triple, Ian Kinkelaar with a single, double and two RBI, Nash Wernsing with a double and two RBI, O. Schuette with two singles and an RBI and Elliott Braddy with a single and an RBI.

Five pitchers threw for the Hearts.

At Neoga

Dieterich moved ahead 1-0 in the opening inning and went on for a 6-1 victory over Neoga Tuesday.

The Maroons finished with 12 hits in the contest and was aided by three Neoga errors.

Andrew Hall and Jackson Icenogle led the way in hitting with two doubles each. Hall finished with two RBI. Mason Lidy added three singles while Bryce Bohnhoff and Dominic Ashley finished with two singles and an RBI each. Gaddison Goeckner added a double and Gavin Meinhart had an RBI.

Neoga was led by Braylon Sparrow with two singles and an RBI and Grady Haarman with two singles.

Ashley went 6.2 innings for the pitching win. He gave up one walk while striking out six.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City moved into a 5-0 lead over South Central in the first inning and went on for an 8-3 victory Tuesday.

CHBC finished with seven hits led by Clive Schlanser and Connor Vaughn with a double each. Vaughn added an RBI. Isaac Miller had two singles and three RBI. Daithyn Arnold had a single and an RBI while Cayden Ondes added an RBI.

At Tuscola

This game went 15 innings before Newton pulled out a 9-7 victory over Tuscola Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 in the second inning. Tuscola moved ahead with a run in the third but Newton answered back in the top of the fourth to lead 4-3. Tuscola then produced four runs in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead 7-4. Newton came back with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to knot the game at 7-7.

The game then went through eight scoreless innings before Newton tallied the winning runs in the top of the 15th.

The Eagles had 16 hits led by Gavin Meinhart with two singles, a home run and two RBI, Maddox Horner with three singles and an RBI, Eli Wolf with two singles and three RBI, Quincy Fulton with a single and double, Chance Mulvey with two singles and an RBI and Dominic Baltzell with a single and an RBI.

Nolen Cleaver came on in the 13th inning for an out and tossed the final two for the pitching win. He gave up one walk and had one strikeout.
