Altamont High School held the early lead but Effingham St. Anthony came back in the later innings to edge the Indians 6-4 in high school baseball action Tuesday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.
The Indians moved ahead 1-0 in the second. Cooper McManaway led off the frame with a single. With two outs, Will Reardon singled to bring McManaway home.
St. Anthony came back to move ahead 2-1 in the top of the third. Will Bierman and Curtis Tingley had back-to-back singles. Henry Brent followed with a third single and Blake Verdeyen singled home a run. A sacrifice by Charley Spour brought home the second run.
Altamont came back with two runs in the third. Kade Milleville singled, stole second and came home on a wild pitch. Carson Milleville followed with a single and went to second on an error. He came home on a sacrifice fly by Zaine Miller and the Indians led 3-2.
The Bulldogs tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth. Aiden Lauritzen led off with a double and came home later after Will Vonderheide and Freddie Jansen had a single each.
St. Anthony then moved ahead in the sixth. With one out, Verdeyen singled and Lauritzen was hit by a pitch. Spour followed with a home run and suddenly the Bulldogs led 6-3.
Altamont came back with a single run in the bottom of the sixth. Kaiden Wolff singled with one out. Will Reardon singled and brought Wolff home but that’s where the scoring ended as the Indians went up and down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Hayden Bushur went five innings for the pitching win. He gave up three runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Spour led the way in hitting with a single, home run and four RBI while Lauritzen had a double. Brent, Verdeyen, Freddie Jansen and Curtis Tingley finished with two singles each. Verdeyen had an RBI.
Altamont was led by Z. Miller and Reardon with a single and an RBI each.
