FARINA — Cumberland edged into a 1-0 opening inning lead against South Central and went on to blank the homestanders by a 6-0 count in high school baseball action Wednesday.
The Pirates finished with nine hits while Reed Miller and Adyn Heuerman combined to throw a two-hitter. Miller went six innings for the win. He gave up two hits, three walks and struck out two. Heuerman came on to throw the final inning, with one strikeout.
Meanwhile, Cumberland’s Grady Jones hit a home run and finished with three RBI. R. Miller and Maddox Miller had a single and double each. Reed Walker added a single and an RBI.
South Central’s lone hit was a single by Luke Shumate with a single.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City pounded out 16 hits and downed Oblong, 13-6 Wednesday.
Ben Askins had four singles, a double and an RBI while Isaac Miller a single, two doubles and four RBI. Cayden Ondes and Zach Bennett had a double and two RBI each. Connor Vaughn added two singles and an RBI while Max Kircher had a single and an RBI.

North Clay blanked Breese Mater Dei by a 10-0 count Wednesday.
The Cardinals improved to 27-3 on the season and are back in action at Breese Central Friday in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
At Paris
Neoga moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead. But that didn’t last long as Paris came back with three runs in the fourth. Neoga tied in the top of the fifth only to see Paris score what would prove to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-3 victory.
Neoga had tw0 hits, singles by, Braylon Sparrow and Callen Lanham. Cayden Hakman added an RBI.
