 EHS, St. Anthony, Altamont, Newton CHBC, Cumberland, T-town Claim Wins In High School Baseball

Effingham High School blanked Mattoon Thursday in Apollo Conference baseball action.

The Hearts had two pitchers combine for the shutout. Carter Braddy went 6.2 innings, giving up one hit, striking out nine and walking six. Wyatt Hayes came on to get the final out on a strikeout.

Meanwhile, Jude Traub led the Hearts with a single and double while Brody Boehm hit a solo homer. Brayden Tucker added a double while Jacob Warner finished with a single and an RBI. Westin Hayes had an RBI.

The two teams were sure-handed with neither one committing an error.

Mattoon’s lone hit was a single by Matthew Miller. Miller went 4.2 innings on the mound, giving up three runs on four hits, walking five and striking out one. Brayden Hackett came on to finish the final 1.1 innings. He gave up one hit and struck out one.

Effingham returns to action today, playing host to Flora at 4:30 p.m.

At Glen Carbon

Father McGivney Catholic moved into a 3-0 lead but St. Anthony came back with four runs in the third to move ahead. The two teams went back and forth before the Bulldogs pulled out an 11-10 victory in eight innings Thursday.

The Bulldogs had nine hits that included three home runs. Charley Spour led the way with two singles, a home run and five RBI. Aidan Lauritzen added a single, home run and two RBI and Dorris a home run and two RBI. Will Bierman finished with a single and an RBI.

Bushur picked up the win on the mound. He went the last two innings, did not give up a hit or walk and struck out one.

At Greenville

Altamont scored all of its runs in the first two innings then had to hold off Greenville in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-11 victory Thursday.

The Indians led 10-2 in the first inning and 12-2 in the second. Greenville came back with two runs in the fourth and sixth around a run in the fifth to pull within 12-7. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Greenville scored four only to fall short.

Kade Milleville led in hitting for the winners with a double, home run and three RBI. Brayden Elam added two singles, a double and two RBI. Parker Bell finished with two singles, a double and one RBI. Zaine Miller added a single and double. Carson Milleville and Reed Stuemke finished with two singles and two RBI each. Will Reardon and Blake Berg added an RBI each.

C. Milleville was the winning pitcher. He went six innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits, one walk while striking out three.

At Newton

Newton celebrated Senior Night with a 4-2 win over South Central Thursday.

The two teams played through four innings without a score. South Central moved ahead in the top of the fifth with two runs. Newton came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame and that’s where the scoring ended.

Newton had six hits led by Drake Wolf with two singles, a double and an RBI while Carson Barthelme had a double and an RBI. Maddox Horner added a single and an RBI.

D. Wolf picked up the pitching victory. He went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, two walks while striking out seven. Carson Barthelme went the final inning giving up one hit and striking out one.

South Central outhit the Eagles by an 8-6 count. Luke Shumate had three singles while Ryker Dodson had two singles and two RBI. Colton Tockstein added two singles.

At Newton

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed an 8-1 victory over Ramsey Thursday.

CHBC edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and had a three-run fourth and two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Isaac Miller and Daithyn Arnold had a double each for the winners. Arnold and Kale Hardimon had two RBI each.

At Cowden

Cumberland played host to Cerro Gordo/Bement and sent the visitors home with a 10-0 loss in five innings Thursday.

The Pirates held a 4-0 opening inning lead. Kade McMechan led in hitting with a single, home run and three RBI. Hudson McElravy added a single and had two RBI. Grady Jones and Lance Lock finished with a single and an RBI each and Reed Miller had an RBI.

McElravy took the win on the mound. He went the five innings, giving up two hits, one walk while striking out 12.

At Toledo

Teuotpolis edged Mount Zion, 2-1 in freshman/sophomore baseball action Thursday.

Both teams had three hits. Mount Zion held a 1-0 lead in the fourth. The Wooden Shoes then moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth and that was all the scoring for both teams.

Eric Weidner had a single and an RBI while Luke Niebrugge added an RBI.

D. Drees finished out the final two innings for the win on the mound. He gave up two walks, did not give up a hit and struck out one.

At Teutopolis
