Effingham St. Anthony captured a 6-3 victory over Effingham in junior varsity baseball action Thursday.
The Hearts opened the scoring in the first inning when a wild pitch scored a run. EHS extended its lead in the third with two runs thanks to RBI ground outs by Dagg Thompson and Braden Jones.
But the Bulldogs came back to tie the score in the sixth on a double by Andrew Wagner and a single by Freddie Jansen.
In the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs broke the tie when Jonny Gannaway doubled, scoring a run. A single by Jansen followed to extend the lead to 6-3.
St. Anthony finished with eight hits led by Gannaway with two singles, a double and an RBI, Jansen with two singles and three RBI and Wagner with a double and an RBI.
Jansen went the last three innings on the mound for St. Anthony to finish with the win. He struck out six and walked five.
