Jude Traub was dominant on the hill as Effingham High School handed Mahomet-Seymour a 7-3 baseball loss Wednesday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Traub gave up only five hits and struck out 10 in the win on the mound in 6 2/3 innings. He walked four.

Meanwhile, Andrew Wagoner got EHS off in the right direction with a solo homer to lead off the first inning.

Mahomet-Seymour tied in the second as Pierce Douglas singled, stole second and came home on a single by Nolan Franze.

But EHS retaliated with three runs in the second. Max Flack led off by drawing a walk. With two outs, Wyatt Hayes singled followed by a single by Wagoner that brought Flack home. Brody Boehm singled home Hayes and the Hearts led 4-1.

Bradley Jones hit a solo homer for Mahomet-Seymour and the lead for the Hearts was 4-2.

EHS then scored three runs in a wild third inning. Westin Hayes led off reaching base on an error and stole second. Jude Traub then hit a double scoring Hayes. Max Flack hit a sacrifice bunt that was bobbled and everyone was safe. With runners on first and third, a fly ball out was the first registered against the Hearts.

Will Hecht then hit a ground ball that knocked in Traub for an RBI. A wild pitch put Hecht at second and another wild pitch had Hecht at third and an error on a throw by the catcher trying to get Hecht out allowed him to score and the Hearts held a 7-2 lead.

Mahomet-Seymour came back to tally a final run in the seventh. An error put the first Mahomet-Seymour batter on base. A strikeout was registered before Nolan Sanderson got on on a fielder’s choice and he took second on a wild pitch. He game home on a single by Bradley Jones.

But it wasn’t enough and the Hearts won 7-3.
