Effingham played host to Mount Zion in Apollo Conference baseball action Wednesday and the Hearts fell, 8-3.
The Braves were the first to get on the board. Landon Workman doubled scoring the lone run.
Mount Zion pushed that to 2-0 in the top of the second as Brock Foster hit a solo shot to right field.
The lead went to 6-0 in the top of the third. Kellen Bollhorst singled scoring a run and Foster singled scoring two runs. Davis Venters hit a sacrifice fly scoring the other run.
The Hearts fought back in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs. Andrew Wagoner and Carter Braddy were a force together. Wagoner hit a single, double and drove in all three of Effingham’s runs. Braddy added two singles. Jude Traub had the lone extra base hit, a double for the Hearts.
Foster, along with his offensive output, was the winner on the mound. He went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, four walks and striking out five.
The Hearts went through four pitchers.
Effingham is right back in action today, weather permitting, traveling to North Clay.
