Wayne E. Walden, 83, of Mode, Illinois, passed away at home on October 13, 2026, with his loved ones by his side.
Honoring Wayne’s wishes, private family services will be held at Stewardson Cemetery. Brummerstedt Funeral Home is assisting the family.
He was born on September 17, 1943, in Shelbyville, the son of Ernest and Pauline (Chapman) Walden. Wayne lived a long and faithful life marked by hard work,
devotion to family, and a deep connection to the land he cherished.
He was a 1962 graduate of Stewardson-Strasburg High School and carried the values of that community with him throughout his life. On September 20, 1963, he married Donna Kay
Harrison, and together they shared 42 blessed years of marriage until her passing in 2006. Their marriage was built on love, commitment, and a lifetime of memories that remained dear to him
always.
Wayne was a dairy farmer in the Stewardson and Mode area his entire life. Farming was not simply his occupation, but a way of life that reflected his character, his perseverance, and his
respect for the rhythms of each day. He also worked for many years as a rural mail carrier, serving neighbors across the area with reliability and a friendly presence. Family and farming
were central to who he was, and he took great pride in both.
He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and loved being with his grandchildren. Those who knew Wayne will remember his steady nature, his quiet strength, and the care he gave to the
people closest to him. His life was one of simple but meaningful devotion, and he found joy in the everyday moments that brought his loved ones together.
Wayne was a member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church, the Stewardson Lions Club, and the Illinois Holstein Association. He also served as a 4-H leader for several years, sharing his
knowledge and encouragement with younger generations. His involvement in these organizations reflected his commitment to community and his desire to contribute in lasting ways.
He is survived by his sons, Kurt (Dusty) Walden and Kent (Jenny) Walden, both of Mode; three grandchildren, Kelsie (Nick) Brown of Effingham, Alex Walden of Peoria, and Riley Walden of Mode; two great-grandchildren, Conner and Layna Brown; his brother, Mike (Becky) Walden of Jacksonville; his sister, Marcia Doty of Lafayette, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Don Clawson, his wife, Donna, and his brother-in-law, Steve Doty.
Wayne’s life will be remembered with gratitude by all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the land he worked, and the many lives he touched through his
kindness, service, and steadfast example.
