Nicholas F. Wente, 71, of Teutopolis, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, with burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary and 4th Degree Chalice Service starting at 6:30 PM. Memorial donations may be given to CurePSP to aid in finding a cure for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Nicholas was born on May 12, 1955, the son of Richard O. Wente and Martha P. (Hartke) Wente. He married Joyce T. Roepke on July 24, 1982. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved farming and watching the crops grow.
Nicholas is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce (Roepke) Wente; children, Michelle (Jason) Miller, Melissa (David) Broeringmeyer, Brian (Karen) Wente, Brad (Kelsey) Wente, Megan (Jacob) McClellan, Bruce (Jill) Wente, and Brock (Nicole) Wente; siblings, Victoria (David) Draves, Chris Wente, Patrick (Sharon) Wente, Gloria (Dale) Pruemer, Monica (John) Emmerich, Valentine Wente, and Matthew Wente; sister-in-law, Joyce E. Wente; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Martha Wente; and his brother, Michael Wente.
