Jason Keith Rentfro, 53, of Mode, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and a celebration of life will be held later.
He was born on January 11, 1973, in Effingham, the oldest child of Keith and Kathy Jo (Garner) Rentfro. He lived a life marked by devotion to
his family, steady hard work, and the kind of quiet strength that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Jason grew up in the Stewardson area and graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in 1991. He later continued his education and earned an associate degree. He was proud of the
accomplishments he achieved through determination and perseverance, and one of his greatest honors was being recognized as an Eagle Scout after many years of dedication to the Boy Scouts.
That achievement reflected the character he carried throughout his life, including responsibility, leadership, and a deep sense of commitment to others. Jason enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and found happiness in the time he spent with family and in the things he loved. He especially enjoyed riding motorcycles, particularly Harleys, and he was a devoted fan of both Star Wars and
Star Trek. He built a strong work ethic over the years and was employed at Mars Petcare in Mattoon and at the TA Effingham travel center for more than 20 years. Above all else, Jason was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Tena of Mode; 11 children, Taylor Rentfro of Humbird,Wisconsin, Adam Rentfro of Mode, Matthew (Sasha) Rentfro of Martinsville, Indiana, Jayde
Rentfro of Mode, Cameron Rentfro of Humbird, Wisconsin, Destiny (Terry) Bannick of Dietrich, Noah Rentfro of Cowden, Tyzon Rentfro of Mode, John Emery of Humbird, Wisconsin,
Neumasia Titus of Inverness, Florida, and Danielle (Jason) Bowman of Mattoon; 16 grandchildren, with one more on the way; his siblings, Michael (Jesse) Rentfro of Terre Haute, Indiana, Tim (Kelsey) Rentfro of Mattoon, Anitra Rentfro of Stewardson, Tenille (David Purcell) Rentfro of Windsor, and Tahnee (Joseph) Florida of Altamont; many aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, and his special uncle, Mark Garner, who was like a brother to him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dwight and Ruby Rentfro, and Ernest and Iola Garner; his parents, Keith and Kathy Jo Rentfro; his mother-in-law, Dixie Boulch, and his
brother-in-law, Myron Boulch.
Memorials maybe made to Tena Rentfro, memorial to be decided later, and mailed to Brummerstedt Funeral
