Gloria M. Zander, 85, of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, at Shelbyville Manor.
She was born on October 5, 1940, in Cowden, the daughter of Joe and Stella (Miller) Zander. Gloria lived a life marked by quiet kindness, steady devotion, and a genuine love for the people and pleasures that filled her days. She carried herself with warmth and grace, and those who knew her will remember her as someone who cared deeply for others and took an interest in the lives of family, friends, and even the pets they loved. Gloria was a devoted daughter and a cherished member of her family. She was especially close to her parents and held their memory dear throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as by her sister and brother-in-law, Joy and James Friesner. Her family ties remained an important part of who she was, and she valued the comfort and companionship that came from those relationships.
She is survived by her nephew, Ted (Andrea) Friesner; her niece, Natasha (Bob) Arellano; her great nephews and niece, Nickolas Friesner, Maximo Friesner, Jake Ziegler, and Katherine Ziegler, all of Colorado, along with her special friends, Larry and Carla Johnston and their family, who were blessed to share in her friendship and affection over the years.
Gloria was known for her interest in the lives of others and for the simple joys that brought her happiness. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and followed the team with enthusiasm. She loved animals and was always asking about everyone’s pets, showing a tender heart and a sincere curiosity about the creatures that brought joy to the lives of those around her. She also enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, and watching soap operas. Gloria was a long-time member of the Shelbyville Church of Christ, and it was deeply felt when declining health kept her from attending services as she once had.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville, followed by graveside services in Mound Cemetery with Pastor Greg Reynolds officiating.
