Ralph Ed Carrell, 84, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 10:29 pm on August 22, 2026, at the Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon.
Memorial graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday August 31, 2026, at the Janesville Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family.
Ed was born on July 17, 1942, in Janesville, IL to Ralph and Anna (Walker) Carrell. He married Linda Welch on April 18, 1969.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda; sons Troy (Amber) Carrell and Brett Carrell (fiancé Ashlee Conner); grandchildren Madison “Madi” Carrell and Myles Carrell; brothers John Carrell (Carol Ritz) and Mark (Marcia) Carrell; sister-in-law Charlene Carrell; Aunts Margie Walker and Alberta Tinsman.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Darrin Edward Carrell; brother Wayne Carrell; sister Norma Graham.
Ed was in the Navy for 4 years and three months and went on to work at IDOT in Mattoon for 31 years. Ed enjoyed camping with his family, especially his grandchildren Madison and Myles, they always affectionately called him Papa Ed. He also loved his dogs and took great care of them. He attended the New Mercy Worship Center in Mattoon.
