Donald L. Krietemeyer, 79, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Entombment will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 with a firefighter walk-through at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held for 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.
Memorials may be made to the Effingham Retired Volunteer Firefighters Association (ERVFFA), Effingham County Sportsman Club (ECSC); or the Effingham County Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Donald was born on December 13, 1946 in Mattoon, IL the son of Louis and Mary Jane (Drennan) Krietemeyer. He married June Storm and she survives.
Donald graduated from Neoga High School in 1964. He retired from Consolidated Communications after over 41 years of service. He retired from the Effingham Fire Department (paid on call) after 20 years of service. He also retired from the Lake Sara Marina after 15 years of service. Donald was an active member of the Effingham County Sportsman Club (ECSC), the Effingham Retired Volunteer Firefighters Association (ERVFFA), and the National Wild Turkey Association (NWTF). Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, as well as skeet and sporting clays shooting sports. He was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and liked listening to country music.
Donald is survived by his wife, June Krietemeyer; children, Amy (Gerry) Kingery, Donnie (Amy) Krietemeyer, Scott (Angie) Krietemeyer, Perry Krietemeyer, and Justin (Mandy) Storm; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Linda (Jim) Levingston, Shirley (Bill) Browning, and Sandy McDowell; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Trenton Kingery.
