Joyce Lavaughn Curtis, age 86, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 1:01 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at her home.
Funeral services celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery southwest of Newton. Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the funeral home. Joyce was born on October 23, 1939, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd H. and Mary J. (Weiler) Edwards. She married Lenvil J. Curtis, Sr on May 20, 1962, and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1988.
Joyce was loving wife, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
Joyce enjoyed making flags, genealogy and going to auctions and collecting knick-knacks. Her great treasure was her family that she was so proud of and loved displaying the photos in her home.

Children – Celia “Janie” (husband Paul) Mulvey of Newton, Illinois; Ramona Curtis of Effingham, Illinois; Lenvil “John” Curtis, Jr of Hidalgo, Illinois; Duane (wife Amy) Curtis of Sinton, Texas and Norma (husband Sam) Blythe of Stewardson, Illinois
Grandchildren – Curtis Nichols, Karelia Kalis, Janeta Toppel, Jill Johnson, Nevada DeCrane (Heather), Tony Curtis, Titus Adams (Desiree), Kristopher Curtis (Kara), Matt Harris (Maryah), Michael Harris, Jedediah Adams (Vanessa), Schuyler Curtis (Sierra), Michelle Habing (Phil), Megan Curtis, Brycen Russell (Ali), Emma-Kate Jackson (Jarod), Ava Curtis (Brian), Ashlynn Curtis, and Malachi Curtis

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters Linda Hollgarth, Brenda Watson and Jackie Adams, grandsons John Kalis and Zachary Curtis, sisters Jean Graham, Mary Dearing, Rose Robb and Clara Edwards and brothers John Edwards, Jim Edwards and Floyd Edwards, Jr.
