David Paul Boyer, 78, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, in his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Strasburg Community Church, Strasburg, IL with Pastor Steve Harder officiating. Visitation will be from noon – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the memorial service in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by the Wilbur Braughton Amercian Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, IL. David was born on August 9, 1947, in Effingham, IL, the son of Paul G. and Elizabeth Marie (Duling) Boyer. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1965. David was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. When David returned from the service, he worked as a millwright at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Decatur and later served as road commissioner for Richland Township. He married Diana Elaine Rentfro on June 3, 1972, and they were blessed with two children, Phillip and Jodie. David was a member of the Strasburg Community Church, a 56 year member of the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, IL, and the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club. He enjoyed collecting vintage fishing lures and traveling to shows. He loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; son, Phillip Boyer (Carly) of Strasburg, IL; daughter, Jodie Quast (Doug) of Strasburg, IL; sisters, Nancy Boyer of Strasburg, IL, Sue McIntyre (Gene) of North Carolina, Lynn Huber (Jacque) of Florida, Marilee Piot (Jim) of Texas, and Julia Bryan (Pat) of Illinois: five grandchildren, Jacob, Baylee, Lexi, Camden and Casen; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Boyer and John Boyer; sister, Paula Jones; and infant brother, Joseph Boyer.
