John C. Baginski, 79, of Altamont, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, with Rev. Scott Niermann officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran High School in Effingham, The Immanuel Lutheran Church Music Program, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are being handled by Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont.
John was born on August 21, 1946, in Decatur to Kurt and Annemary (Moll) Baginski. He married Linda Giesler on November 13, 1976, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. John was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Before retiring, he served as an educator and principal within the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
He is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Linda; his children: Jason Baginski of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Curtis Baginski of Effingham, Illinois; Alicia (James) Sardelli of Estero, Florida; and Darla (Matthew Kempisty) Baginski of Macomb, Michigan; and his brother: Richard (Vanessa) Baginski of Findlay, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: James Baginski; and his sister: Karen Wood.
