Ruth C. Swingler, 84 of Sigel, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the St. Michael School.
Ruth was born on November 17, 1941, in Effingham, to Herman and Clara (Repking) Habing. On August 31, 1963, she married Joseph Swingler. Ruth dedicated more than 40 years to Illinois Consolidated, where she began as a switchboard operator and later worked as a system programmer. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph of Sigel; daughter, Judy (Michael) Sass of Forsyth; granddaughter, Katelyn Sass of Chicago and grandson, Aaron Sass of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Elaine Sieben, Sr. Mary Barbara Habing SSND, Marilyn (Dennis) Noonan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Anna Mae (Stanley) Gillespie, Janet (Francis) Flach, Pauletta (Richard) Zimmerman, Rita Habing, Herman Habing, and Norma (Ambrose) Worman; and brother-in-law, Melvin Sieben.
