Corkie A. Mueller, age 71, of Alma, Illinois, passed away on April 13, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born on January 1, 1955, in Effingham, the son of Calvin and Delores (Ballinger) Mueller. On March 10, 1979, he married Betty Nelson, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. Their marriage was further blessed with a daughter, Mildred (John) Cowger of Alma, and Corkie took great pride in his family and the generations that followed. Corkie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He leaves behind his daughter, Mildred, and his three grandchildren, Sebastian (Bailey Henderson) Cowger of Kinmundy, Brooke (Harrison Baird) of Sumner, and Teagan Cowger of Alma. He also leaves behind his brother, Clark (Barb) Mueller of Funkhouser; his sister, Carol (Steve) Blythe of Stewardson; and his sister-in-law, Susan Mueller of Stewardson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 45 years, Betty, his sister, Cathie Underwood, and his brother, Clifford Mueller.
Corkie spent many years working hard and serving his community through his business, having owned and operated Mueller Auto Shop for several years. His work reflected his practical nature, his integrity, and his willingness to help others. He was known as someone people could count on, whether they needed a hand, a kind word, or a trusted mechanic who took pride in doing the job right. His efforts and dedication left a lasting impression on those who knew him through his business and in everyday life. He was also a past member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church, where he shared in fellowship and community. Corkie valued connection with others and carried himself with quiet kindness and humility. He enjoyed the simple and meaningful parts of life, especially gardening and selling at the Farmer’s Market, where he found joy in visiting with people and sharing the fruits of his labor. He also loved helping his grandchildren care for their baby lambs, a role that brought him great happiness and reflected the gentle, caring side of his nature.
