Jesse A. Heischmidt, 85, of Altamont died at 12:03 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Rev. Ron Lorilla officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clare Catholic Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #512 and Gieseking-Schwertdfeger V.F.W. Post #7676, both of Altamont. There will be a Rosary Service at 3:30p.m. Monday, April 6th followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Memorials may be made to the Effingham Knights of Columbus or the Altamont Lions Club.

Jesse was born on Saturday, October 5, 1940 in rural St. Elmo, IL to Jesse J. and Delia (Koeberlein). He married Patricia Will, on October 2, 1965. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont. He was a long- time agent with Country Companies Insurance. He was a veteran of the Illinois Army National Guard, was active with the Altamont Lions Club, Effingham Knights of Columbus and for many years was instrumental in coordinating the Racing Programs for the Effingham County Fair.

He is survived by: his wife of over 60 years, Pat of Altamont; sons, Michael (Connie) Heischmidt of Effingham, Matthew (Mai-Khanh) of St. Charles, MO, and Thomas (Roxanne) Heischmidt of Effingham; brothers, Mark (Jennieann) of St. Elmo and Paul (Janet) Heischmidt of Godfrey; sisters, Elizabeth (Lester) Stoner of Charleston and Loretta Heischmidt of St. Elmo; and 5 grandchildren; Isaac, Ian, Leah, Abigail, and Drew.

Jesse was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Pauline Zimmerman and Margaret Ransden.
