The GFWC Effingham Women of Today joined with GFWC International to combat the issue of domestic violence against children, women and men. Domestic and sexual violence includes but is not limited to verbal, physical, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse and is serious public health issue.
The local club chose to focus on children and partnered with Angeled Kids: Foster Closet to provide that local organization with preemie and newborn new clothing and diapers. A proclamation was signed by the City of Effingham Mayor and the Effingham County Board Chairman to declare September 26, International Day of Service in Effingham City and County.
The GFWC Illinois Effingham of Today is the local affiliate of the state and national Federation of Women’s Clubs. Interested persons who wish to get involved in a variety of projects, including Blessings in a Backpack, Meals on Wheels, scholarships and more community projects are encouraged to contact Club Co-Presidents Becky Brown at 217-821-6780 or Donna Zerrusen at 217-821-3224 or any member of the club for an informational brochure. Meetings are usually held on the first Thursday of the month at noon and anyone interested is welcome to attend.
