The question arose at Monday night’s Unit 40 school board meeting of why the football team isn’t out on the field when the National Anthem is played?
Our Greg Sapp talked with Hearts varsity football coach Brett Hefner about the matter Wednesday. Coach Hefner said it’s a situation that has existed since many years before he came to Effingham.
Greg also spoke by phone with EHS Principal Kurt Roberts about the matter. Roberts said that meetings have been going on to change the football pre-game set-up.
It’s also ironic that the issue came up following the annual Military Appreciation Night that the football team plays to raise funds for local veterans organizations.
