Teutopolis residents had an opportunity Wednesday evening to find out more about a Tax Increment Financing district to be developed on the west side of the village.

The South Smith Street TIF plan area involves land south of the CSX Railroad. The project is to involve 61 lots, all residential, similar in nature to Prairie View Subdivision on the east side of town.

10-12 people attended a public hearing concerning the TIF project. With a “goal to grow”, the project would allow more residential development. There is only one lot remaining in Prairie View. All of the lots there have been sold since 2018.

There was more discussion regarding the property being sought by the village, but no action on the purchase of the land.

Also Wednesday, the Board renewed employee health insurance coverage at a 3% premium increase. Also approved was a TIF application submitted by the Teutopolis Park District. The funds will cover a third of the cost of resurfacing the parking lot in the village park.

Board members voted to pay $153,583.85 of the cost of the John Street box culvert replacement project, to pay a $40,505.85 change order on the Harvester Street project, and $120,573.35 on the Harvester project.

The Board also paid $678 to replace the tires on a village squad car.
