Altamont city council members are seeking grant funds for the demolition of a downtown building.
The City purchased the former bank building at 102 West Washington. The Council is now seeking a $257,000 grant to pay for the demolition. Under the agreement, the City will have to let the land sit vacant from the time the building is demolished before the land can be developed.
Council members heard from local resident Donna Rouleau, who asked that the City be proactive in enforcing its leash law. Rouleau raises support dogs, but said when she walks those dogs on a leash, she encounters dogs that are not on a leash. She said that problems occur and she’d like to avoid such problems.
The Council denied a special use permit for a day spa in a residential area, and extended to the end of September a redevelopment plan for RDM Designs Custom Cabinetry. Also extended was a redevelopment plan for a property for Lawrence Holste until April 2027.
Council members amended an intergovernmental agreement with the Altamont school district for electrical work. The work will now be completed during the Columbus Day weekend. The Council also heard about an employee membership option for air medical service. The item was only for discussion at this point.
