An Effingham resident has been sentenced to prison for robbery and burglary.
21-year-old Nicholas Courtright was sentenced to 10 years on a charge of aggravated robbery. The sentence stemmed from an incident at Days Inn on March 31.
Effingham city police reported that a man armed with a knife had demanded the motel’s cash drawer from an employee. After seizing the cash drawer, which contained an undetermined amount of cash, the subject fled the scene. A drone and a K9 led to finding Courtright in a makeshift encampment in a wooded area behind Boos Outlet Showroom, where he was taken into custody.
A Class X count of armed robbery was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea. Courtright was also sentenced to four years in prison for burglary.
