After months of providing information and researching the matter, the Teutopolis Board of Education Monday voted to place a bond referendum concerning Teutopolis Grade School on the November election ballot.
Here’s the question as it will appear on the ballot: “Shall the Board of Education of Teutopolis Community Unit School District Number 50, Effingham, Cumberland and Shelby Counties, Illinois, improve the site of and alter, repair and equip the Teutopolis Grade School Building, including constructing school safety and security improvements, renovating instructional spaces and restrooms, installing elevators and constructing other Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility compliance improvements, repairing floors and interior walls and replacing water and sewer lines, and issue its bonds to the amount of $15 million for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
A simple majority one way or the other will decide the question.
The Board and administration plan to continue making information publicly available until the vote, which will take place on Tuesday, November 3.
Also Monday, the Board heard from varsity baseball coach Justin Fleener, who asked the Board to consider adding an assistant fall baseball coach, and approved a tentative fiscal year budget with final approval scheduled for the September meeting. They were also updated on ongoing talks with the Teutopolis Village Board on Tax Increment Financing, and a leave of absence request was approved.
A Board member asked to review the Board climate survey results from the Fall of 2024, and for the Board to consider a re-survey of staff again this year.
The Board hired Maria Tegeler as interim high school girls basketball coach for the school year, and directed the administration for additional assistant coach positions for the school year only at the recommendation of the athletic and activities director, contingent upon student participation and contest scheduling.
