Julie Fortier, the Democrat candidate for Congress in the 12th District, was at the Effingham County Fair on Friday night. Fortier is running against Republican incumbent Mike Bost in November.
Fortier has a varied background. She is a community volunteer and a mother who has lived in Southern Illinois for more than 25 years. She is a US Air Force veteran and is also a scientist, working in biomedical research.
Fortier said she is accepting zero corporate PAC money and is depending on grassroots donations from people across the 12th District. She is making stops at every county across the district and was in Jasper County on Saturday and in Cumberland County on Sunday.
