The buildings on the second phase of the Fayette Avenue reconstruction project should start coming down in September.
IDOT’s Tim Hemmen said Phoenix Construction of the Quad Cities was awarded the contract for the demolition work, which will run from Banker Street to Willow Street. Hemmen said Phoenix Construction had the removal of houses on the first phase of the Fayette project.
The work is to begin the week of September 7. Hemmen said the contractor is coordinating with the utility providers and will oversee any necessary asbestos abatement, along with backfill of the basements and any seeding.
When the construction contract is awarded, Fayette will be rebuilt from Banker Street to Salt Creek.
