An Olney man has been arrested in connection with two homicides in that community earlier this week.
Illinois State Police have arrested 25-year-old Dylan M. Jones. State Police made the arrest after an investigation at the request of the Olney Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office. The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Dylan Jones with six counts of first degree murder.
Just after 3pm Tuesday, Olney police and Richland County deputies responded to two homes in the 400 block of East Monroe Street in Olney. Officers found two deceased individuals, 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones. The initial investigation indicates Dylan Jones struck John Jones in the head with a sharp-edged instrument and stabbed Deborah Jones with a knife.
The Richland County Coroner is conducting medical examinations to determine official causes of death.
Dylan Jones will be held in custody until an evaluation to determine his fitness is completed. He is scheduled in court on July 23.
