The Effingham Performance Center officially unveiled an American 250 sculpture.
The EPC in connection with the Illinois Arts Council commissioned the sculpture on July 1.
Local artist Drew Hanfland, who is a multi-disciplinary artist and woodworker based in Effingham, created the sculpture, “Celebrate”, now on display in the courtyard at the EPC. The sculpture represents how the country has joined cultures and united together for the pursuit of freedom and liberty. The figure represents unity, freedom, and diversity with respect paid to the statue that welcomes visitors to the United States–the Statue of Liberty.
“The Effingham Performance Center is excited to be a part of this state-wide initiative, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary through the power of the arts,” said Kim Jansen, executive director of the EPC. “The artwork created by Drew will serve as a vibrant focal point for our patrons, our visitors, and our community to gather and reflect on this historic national milestone.”
The project was made possible through Illinois’ America 250 Celebration public art grant program. The EPC project is one of 22 projects throughout the state focusing on this message and this celebration.
