North Clay school board members were updated at this week’s meeting on construction projects.

Superintendent Keith Price said projects are on schedule, including patching and painting of the efis that covers the high school building, the removal of all asbestos tiles and their replacement with new tiles, and the re-design of the Pre-K playground. Other projects include additional concrete parking spaces at the high school circle drive, new interior doors at the high school, new exterior entryway doors at the grade school, and new exterior doors leading to the grade school blacktop.

The Board’s building and grounds committee discussed next steps on a restroom/concessions stand facility.

In personnel moves, the North Clay board hired Ben Rounds as a summer custodian, hired Lindsey Fehrenbacher and hired Kyra Wagner, both for paraprofessional positions, hired Rase Collins as junior high assistant softball coach, and hired Kyra Wagner as junior high cheer coach. The Board set the salaries for the district bookkeeper, district technology coordinator, and district director of buildings and grounds, and approved the non-renewal of Brian Swope as junior high cross country coach effective immediately.

Price reported that the district had a 0% increase in employee insurance policies through Blue Cross Blue Shield due to the district’s low loss ratio over the past two years.

The Board approved policies regarding environmental sensors. The sensors detect such things as temperature, humidity, air quality, CO2 levels, loud noises, smoke, and vapor from vape devices. They also renewed an agreement with Flora Public Library that provides a free library card to all North Clay students.
