The Effingham County Coroner’s Office found a Texas trucker dead in Effingham on Monday afternoon.
The trucker was identified as 50-year-old John Savelli of Humble, Texas.
The Effingham City Police Department notified the Coroner’s Office at about 2pm Monday of a death at 1809 West Fayette Avenue. Deputy Coroner Lauren Heuerman and County Coroner Kim Rhodes arrived and were advised that the trucking company from Texas was attempting to locate their driver, who was parked at that location.
Effingham City Police located the vehicle and discovered the dead man in the cab of the semi. There were no visible injuries or trauma to Savelli. The Coroner’s Office transported Savelli to the Effingham County Morgue, then notified next-of-kin in Texas.
Toxicology samples were taken and medical records were requested from the primary physician in Texas. Toxicology results should be available in two to three weeks.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Savelli’s death was natural.
The Effingham City Police Department and the Effingham County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation.
