The Altamont City Council Monday filled their final vacancy on the Council.

John Mefford was named a commissioner to oversee the streets and alleys departments. Mefford is a 10-year Altamont resident and his wife will be teaching in the Altamont school district this fall.

The Council approved a special use liquor license for the Dr. Charles M. Wright Wine, Beer and Music Event on September 19, and approved a GIS intergovernmental agreement between Effingham County and the City of Altamont at no charge to the City.

Council members approved a grant writing agreement with South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission, seeking grant funds for a water main replacement project in the northwest section of Altamont. The City will be sending out income surveys that will hopefully grant funds.

The Council also approved C&C Excavating to improve Rocket Road in South Point Subdivision, and executed a release of option that had been for purchase of real estate.
