Skies turned sunny Monday morning for Memorial Day observances throughout the area.

That included the three ceremonies in Effingham at St. Anthony, Oakridge and Woodlawn Cemeteries.

Effingham VFW Post #1769 served as the host for the ceremonies.

The originally scheduled speaker could not attend the ceremony at Oakridge Cemetery, so Gina Kinkelaar Wolf shared instead.

Wolf had spoken last week at the monthly historical ceremony at the Courthouse Museum. She shared some of what she had spoken about then on the topic, “The Grandfather I Never Knew”. Her grandfather was killed fighting in World War II in France. Wolf journeyed to Lorraine, France, where her grandfather is buried, to learn more about him.
