10 members of Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Liberty Unit #289 braved the brisk winds and traveled to area cemeteries on Sunday, and placed 227 flags on the graves of veterans in preparation for Memorial Day.
The Auxiliary places the flags a week before Memorial Day to allow early visitors to see the flags on the graves of their loved ones. 88 flags were placed at St. Paul’s Cemetery; 87 flags at Grace Cemetery; 45 flags at Richland Cemetery; and four at Wade Cemetery. Two flags will also be placed at Lookout Cemetery.
Auxiliary members assisting with the placement of the flags included Bonnie Lawrence, Skylar Vonderheide, Sarah Wyckoff, Diana Arthur, and Linda Oakley, plus Junior members Abby, Anna, Aubrey, Adeline Brown and Shae Vonderheide. Also helping was Riddick Reed.
