One person was killed and two others were injured as the result of a head-on collision south of Effingham during the noon hour Monday.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said 61-year-old Daniel Bushur of rural Dieterich died in the emergency room at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham at 2:36pm.
The crash occurred at 12:45pm on US Route 45 just south of Heartville. Preliminary information indicated Bushur was northbound on Route 45 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound vehicle driven by 45-year-old Miguel Garcia-Gregorio of Flora.
Garcia-Gregorio was taken to St. Anthony’s, then later transferred to a regional trauma center. His passenger was treated at St. Anthony’s, then released.
Rhodes noted that at the time of the crash, it was very windy and visibility was limited due to excessive rainfall in the area.
Medical records have been requested for Bushur and toxicology samples were obtained by the coroner’s office. The results should be available in about three weeks.
Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Coroner’s Office are completing an investigation into the crash. Also assisting were the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and Rural Med EMS.
