(FROM LEFT, SIERRA AND ELIZABETH KREKE)
Effingham County 4-H members Sierra and Elizabeth Kreke recently represented the county at the Illinois 4-H Legislative Connection, an annual statewide event held in Springfield that provides youth with the opportunity to engage in civic leadership and advocacy.
The Illinois 4-H Legislative Connection brings together trained 4-H members from across the state to meet with legislators, learn about the legislative process, and share the impact of 4-H programs within their communities. Participants must complete the “Speaking for Illinois 4-H” training, which prepares them to effectively communicate with elected officials and advocate for University of Illinois Extension programming.
During the event, Sierra and Elizabeth joined fellow 4-H members in visiting the Illinois State Capitol, where they met with legislators and were introduced in both the Illinois House and Senate chambers. Through these experiences, they developed valuable skills in public speaking, leadership, and civic engagement.
The Legislative Connection continues to play an important role in helping youth understand how government works while giving them a voice in shaping the future of programs that impact their communities. Effingham County 4-H is proud of Sierra and Elizabeth for their leadership and for representing the county at the state level.
