Fire did significant damage to a house and attached warehouse in Newton Wednesday afternoon.
Wade Township Fire Protection District was called to 103 Morgan Street at 1:50pm. Fire Chief Gary Lindemann said a State Fire Marshal’s Office representative is on scene today to help determine the cause of the fire.
Lindemann said no one was home at the time of the fire, which did approximately $300,000 in damage. The chief said the warehouse was an old print shop. Fire damage was confined chiefly to the house, but a small portion of the warehouse also was damaged.
Wade firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Olney, Greenup, Oblong, Dieterich and Crooked Creek departments, along with MABAS 54, while Watson firefighters provided station coverage. Newton city police and dispatch, along with city and utility crews assisted.
Lindemann said the last of the firefighters cleared the scene about 5:45pm.
